David Moyes unlikely to stay at West Ham after talks

Sky sources understand David Moyes is unlikely to stay at West Ham, who could shortlist Manuel Pellegrini and Rafael Benitez if they part company with Moyes

David Moyes has held talks about his future at West Ham and is unlikely to stay at the club, according to Sky sources.

Sky Sports News understands that Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez and former Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini would be on a shortlist should the Hammers decide to part company with Moyes.

It is also understood that between 30 and 40 managers have expressed an interest in the job.

Moyes was appointed as Slaven Bilic’s successor in November last year with the club in the relegation zone.

The Hammers finished in 13th place in the Premier League but their season has been marred by fan unrest, culminating in a pitch invasion during their 3-0 defeat to Burnley in March.

Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol told Sky Sports News on Monday: “West Ham are very pleased with the job that he has done while he has been at the club. He was brought in to make sure that they stayed in the Premier League and he has delivered on that.

“But during these talks, it is my understanding that he was told it is unlikely that they were going to continue with him as the manager.

“It is touch and go whether he stays at West Ham. The feeling among the owners David Sullivan and David Gold is that they need a manager to take them further forward.

“They want a big name who is going to bring them success to take the pressure off them.”
